A+ Bus Program

Another school year has begun and school buses are once again transporting students to and from school.  The A+ Bus Program at South Hill Elementary School is beginning its first year.  We expect to see many positive effects from the implementation of A+ bus. The primary purpose of the A+ Bus program is keeping students safe on the buses.  We are also striving for your child’s school day to begin in a positive way.  The bus drivers are the first and last school officials seen by most students daily.  A positive beginning and ending is a necessary component for academic success and emotional well-being.  A safe and pleasant ride to and from school is rewarded with the grade, A+.  An A+ Bus may be earned if ALL of the students stay seated and keep a safe voice level.  This is not an easy feat for young children, but the A+ Bus Program at S.H.E. helps them accomplish it!

The A+ Bus Program requires the drivers to evaluate the safety behaviors of their students.  The grade is reported to a school administrator every morning, shared with the students, and recorded in an A+ Bus grade book.

After five A+’s are earned, the bus drivers will pick a name of a lucky student from an envelope for a winner of an A+ Bus Buck that can be spent at school!

A+ Bus Poem Expresses School Bus Safety

The A+ Bus Safety Chant

By Rebecca Worrell

Keep back and bottom on the seat.

Lay book bag on lap or feet.

Treat others like queens and kings.

Respect people, places, and things.

Read or talk softly while you ride.

Enjoy that South Hill Elementary Kool Kat pride.

Practice safety without a fuss.

And you’ll be riding an A+ BUS!

Parents:

Bus Stop

Your responsibility is to help your child get to the bus stop at least five minutes early, discuss the A+ Bus safety rule with your child, and to see your child safely on the bus.  The major school bus safety rules to reinforce at home are as follows:

1.      Sit with your back and bottom on the seat

2.      Use a safe voice level (speak only to person sitting next to you or read a book

3.      Respect others

4.      Report problems to parents, driver, teacher(s), and school administrators
