South  Hill Elementary is pleased to announce that we will be participating three days a week in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Program this year. The students will be introduced to new and exotic fruits and vegetables such as: apricots, broccoli, cauliflower, dates, figs, kiwi, kumquats and promegranates. The students will also have the opportunity to sample other more common fruits and vegetables such as: apples, bananas, cantaloupes, carrots, grapes, mushrooms, oranges, radishes, spinach and watermelons.

The goal of the FFVP is to:
  • Create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices.
  • Expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience
  • Increase children's fruit and vegetable consumption.
  • Make a differance in children's diets to impact their present and future health.
This program is seen as an important catalyst for change in efforts to combat childhood obesity by helping children learn more heathful eating habits. The FFVP introduces school children to a varity of produce that they otherwise might not have had the opportunity to sample.
