Wesley Haskins visited the second grade classes of Karen Church and Ann Owen Friday, December 11 to demonstrate the effects of erosion on land. This topic is included in the Virginia Standards of Learning for Second Graders. Mr. Haskins works in the area of Soil and Water Conservation for the Department of Conservation and Reservation. The students really enjoyed Mr. Haskins' presentation and experienced a wonderful learning opportunity by viewing the real causes and effects of erosion.
Lunch Buddies and other community members took extra time out of their day to visit each classroom at South Hill Elementary and read a book by Dr. Seuss. Thank you to all our readers!

South Hill Elementary's Dr. Seuss Family Night was a Seusscess! Many parents braved the cold rain to come out and enjoy math and literacy activities with their children. Families were able to make Oobleck, see how many beasts can fit in a cage, create compound words, and play on the laptops. 30 books were given as door prizes with a special thanks to Mrs. West for donating those. Thanks to everybody, parents and staff, who made this night such Seussical fun!
